PRINTS & COLORS

Summer break has been great so far as  I finally have time to catch up on some reading, be that blogs, magazines or an actual book. Flowy shorts are my go-to bottoms right now because of its high ability to combat the subtropical heat. Really wish I could go on a vacation to refresh my soul right now but sadly I can't. The worst thing is that my schedule is packed with overloading supplementary classes in August which means practically, I have to go back to school in August. Anyway, I will probably take a few self-assigned day-offs then. (DON'T TELL THE TEACHERS!)  xx

p.s. the backpack is my newest obsession too!

SUMMER SPECIAL #1 : R&B RESEARCH BAKERY

(Double cheese burger)

(YEAH for Roshe runs)

We went to R&B Research Bakery in Tsim Sha Tsui for lunch last week on my boyfriend's birthday. When I first saw people's instagram pictures of it with nice green scenery from the big windows, I thought it would locate in a rather remote location but surprisingly, it locates on the third floor of a building on the busy Nathan Road. After a not-so-magical elevator ride, we arrived at a restaurant filled with natural lights and woody furniture. The environment was so relaxing that it was a totally different world from downstairs.

What I enjoyed the most is the double cheese burger there. The quite juicy beef combined with the melted cheese just create the perfect burger! (Sorry that I'm not good at describing food but hey, I'm good at eating them!) I guess the fries are not everyone's cup of tea as they are rather dry and crunchy. The (homemade?) tomato sauce is just marvelous and I enjoyed it a lot.

The fried chicken Benedict is alright but not my favorite. I have to warn you that it's a little spicy and unexpectedly, instead of traditional English muffins, they used something like scone as the base(?) of the Benedict. The chicken might be a little bit too dry for me but it was acceptable.

We also went to Kisses Cupcakes in the K11 Art Mall after shopping as it was birthday and I was craving for desserts. The red velvet one (the one in the photo) is really good with the sour cream frosting. I also tried the green tea one but it tasted a bit minty which is kind of weird but it was okay.

Hope you all enjoy this post with lots of food (which I obviously love).   xx

5 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN APPAREL

American Apparel is undoubtedly one of the largest apparel brands in the United States and all around the world. They opened their first shop here in Hong Kong last May at Causeway Bay, bringing you apparel that is proudly made in the USA and sweatshop-free. Known for their striking and sometimes controversial advertisements, they never fail to make a splash no matter where they are. So, what does this really mean for the brand? Here are 5 facts you probably don’t know about American Apparel:
  1. American Apparel was founded by a Canadian.
In 1989, Dov Charney, fascinated with t-shirts and the American culture, founded the apparel brand. the first retail store opened in 2003, and in just a little over 10 years, has gone on to establish more than 260 stores in 19 countries all over the world.

2. Their garment workers can be paid up to 50 times more than the industry rate

The competitor’s garment workers in Bangladesh make $600 a year. American Apparel’s garment workers in America make $30000 a year, plus benefits. The math is simple. Keeping production and manufacturing right in the heart of USA, they cut down on export costs, and the money saved goes back to the salary of the workers instead. Smart or what?

3.  They are (currently) home to the world’s oldest lingerie model.

American Apparel caused quite a stir when they unveiled their latest lingerie model earlier this year. 62 year old Jackie O’Shaughnessy appeared in their advertisements in their advertisements with their new line of lingerie, accompanied with the tagline: “Sexy has no expiration date.” None indeed.

4. American Apparel makes dog sweaters and baby bibs

Surprised? So am I. This is the brainchild of their factory workers who had some leftover cloth at the end of the day after making the clothes. Using the scraps, they started making small items with them. That’s what happens when you pay your workers well, and they are free to innovate and take control of their work.

5.  It can take 8 days for a product to hit the racks.

Yes, 8 days. Because everything is done in-house at the manufacturing facility, everything moves at a lightning quick pace. From the first design, to the prototype, to the manufacturing, to going on sale at the store, that’s how long it needs for it to hit the racks. You won’t find this kind of efficiency in other retailers whose operations can be based over several countries!

CASUAL SUNDAY

Good news : I tried to make use of the beautiful weather today to do some shoots with da bro. I suddenly realize that my style has changed a bit from last summer as I tend to experiment different prints in one outfit now instead of  trying out different color combo and wearing just florals if I was going for prints. Stripes and daisies, two typical summer prints, go perfectly together to spice up a casual outfit. I minimize the amount of accessories to a siver necklace and some hair ties around my wrist. (which are very practical too!) Also, french braid is my go-to hairstyle for this summer so this posts basically sums up my style recently! What do you think? Tell me in the comments. I'd love to hear!  xx

MONTHLY INSPIRATION : JULY 2014

(Images from Tumblr)

I am so lazy these days that I wanna punch myself in the face but obviously didn't because who has the strength for that? My summer break has just started but it already feels like I have been idling for a good few months. I should make use of my free time to shoot some outfit posts but instead I'm just watching 90210 on my bed with a huge bag of chips. (hey don't judge!) And trying to ace in the Kardashian game is probably the most productive thing that I have done recently. I'd better go to brainstorm some ideas for da blog now and I'll see you very soon.                xx
